Making Up with Angel Stories

I used to love fallen angels stories. I mean, what was there not to love? Um… hot guy? Check. Huge important forces keeping Subject in Love A and B apart? Check. Epic Showdows? Check. There’s no way to go wrong with it. Except, until you can.

Whether authors choose to keep to religion, or another background of their own imagination, stories with angels, the more I read them, the more… cheesy and predictable they got.

I’m not the only one, the first, nor the last, to experience this. We all know about those books that want to make you tear out your hair *cough* Halo *cough*, but not all is lost. Here are some books that saved me from completely losing hope in Angel stories.

Angelfall

angelfall

Because, no good angel book list is complete without Angelfall. Here, the author basically gives the middle-finger to backstory and we never really find out where, exactly are these angels from, but I’m hoping we might discover it in the third one. Aside from that, this book is gold. Forget about good, and fluffy angels here. These ones are out for the kill, are vain and regard humans as less than animals. And with the world at stake, the protagonist, Penryn only wants to find her sister, and get her and mother to safety. That’s all.

Hallowed

Hallowed

In a world where main characters are obsessed with their connection, and who they are meant to be with, Clara comes and questions all that. Welcome to Hallowed, where the offspring of angels and humans live on earth, and each one, at a certain age, have to fullfill some kind of task that will eventually reveal to them. It’s a big deal. Only Clara’s turns out to be more complicated than she’d initially thought. This story is refreshing, and its plot is very gripping.

Angel

No fallen angels here, or tasks… Only evil angels that suck your life essence. And *giggle* Angel killers. Cheesy name. But I promise, they’re pretty badass. Yes, not as awesome as the first two, but the plot makes you wonder how the hell are they gonna get out of that mess. And also, the fact that things get progressively bad every time they have a plan helps. This is more likely to appeal to people who like more romance tossed in.

Heavenly

Heavenly

This one must be the most religion-oriented out of all these. But, it was pretty awesome, you know? I read it years ago, and it was a really heart-warming story about a girl who falls for her little sister’s guardian angel. It’s not without action and no, it’s not as dumb as it sounds. Because the series doesn’t end like you expect, which is exactly what makes it stand out. I still smile thinking about that story.
