3 Things I’d Like to Write About One Day

3 Things I'd Like to Write About One Day

Like many of you, I’m currently working on a WIP, which I shall not talk about today because it’s driving me nuts. It gets frustrating because I want to just finish already so I can start working on these other projects I have, which causes me a negative vibe. And who likes negativity? I decided to have a much more positive outlook on my not being able to write about these other ideas yet, and here’s a list of some things that have been on my mind.

A contemporary romance

I started one about a week ago after a burst of inspiration. I refered to it in Twitter as the ‘Dragonless WIP’. It amazed me how in the span of a few hours, writing this thing became so important.

Reasons why I really want to write this:

  • I plan for it to be set in my own country, so I’d include a lot of  culture and our traditions.
  • It has a lot of emotional meaning for me, since the main characters deal with things that I’ve been experiencing myself or some of my friends.

Something with Incan Culture

The above phrase is actually all I have about this. I just feel like most of the countries have their ancient cultures and mythology writers can do wonders with, like greek, irish, russian, nordic… but american, or even less, south american ones are in the shadows. This isn’t anyone’s fault really, we just have to research more about it and come up with awesome ideas. But this is definitely something I’d like to work on in the future.

Reasons why I want to write about this:

  • I think I owe it to my culture to put my two cents so they are represented in lit as well.
  • There’s so much potential in the Incas! Their gods are so mythology material.

A science fiction-esque, dystopian society

I know, I know, it sounds like this could describe half the dystopian books in the market, but I swear there are a few surprises. I’m so excited for this story! This one falls second to my ‘Dragon’ series so, this is the one that comes next in terms of ‘actually having something to work with’. They’re mostly drabbles, but the concept still keeps me up at night sometimes, thinking about how awesome it’d be if it was out in the world.

Reasons why I want to write this:

  • There would be a heavy focus on the world itself, and I’m dying to make some indirect criticism of the current governments.
  • There’s an aspect of the world that I’m still working on: The currency. It’s the thing that I’m struggling with the most, because the system I deviced it’s complicated to make it work. But I’m hell bent on making it work. Good things don’t come easy. 😉
  • There’s a whole lot of word-loving people in this story.

And that’s it for now! One day, hopefully, all of these will become reality :3 , in a book, relax.

Do you have things you’d really like to write about some day? About aliens, french-speaking cats, or vampires with wings?

  1. Ooh, Incan culture sounds amazing. I don’t know a lot about it – and as far as I know lots of their knowledge has been lost, sadly. My dad travelled to Peru once and came back with a load of amazing photos and I’ve had it on my to-go list for ages. I haven’t read any books set in that culture, though!

Distopian societies are a nice place to write about social criticism, I think – but fantasy worlds can be, too. I dislike fantasy worlds that just replicate Medieval Europe without changing anything (like the patriarchal system or slavery or whatever).

I’d like to write a contemporary romance set in Maine. A French-inspired fantasy. An urban fantasy about immortal fae girls and mortal human boys. Someday, right? 🙂

I wish you luck with your writing!

  2. AHH THESE THREE IDEAS ARE FAB!
I’m trying to write a contemporary novel right now?? BUT ITS LIKE IN ITS BEGINNING PHASES AND I KEEP THINKING “UGH THIS SUCKS”. you know that phase right after you’re really enthused about your idea, and then you just keep thinking about how bad it is?? >.< IDK IF YOU FEEL IT, BUT I FEEL IT 🙁
Anyway, yeah I think that's why contemporary novels can be so important – if you embed some of your culture and tradition, it becomes richer in a sense?
And INCANS ARE COOL. End of story.
I'd love to read a science-fictiony, dystopian novel from you too! ^_^
    LOVED HEARING YOUR IDEAS~! 🙂

  3. YES REPRESENT SOUTH AMERICAN/SPANISH-SPEAKING CULTURE though I’m not interested in representing Chinese culture. We have some weird things in our mythology though… I think the only mythos I ever fell in love with was the Norse pantheon.
I really want to write a story from the POV of a d/Deaf person. That’s pretty much it on my to-write list. I tend to do a lot of really really really really really really really really really random stuff.
