I love books that revolve around romance, kissing, some hand-holding, more kissing, ass-kicking, good ol’ sexual tension and all those shenanigans. After reading tons of these books, the romance plots, or subplots, depending on the book, start being categorized in my mind. Mainly, in two groups: The We-were-meant-to-be one, and the Nice-n-Slow.
To be more specific:
We Were Meant to Be
Basically, when it’s stated that the two characters belong to way better and it’s more than something they just ‘say’. For some reason, destiny does want them together. It was really meant to be. All a scheme to make those two find each other and be happy. More usually seen in wolf books, where the mate concept exists and the We Were Meant to Be thing is taken to the letter.
Nice-n-Slow
This group is broader. Two regular people minding their own business meet, fall in love, and that’s it. There isn’t any weird mojo binding them together. We’re sure that the reason why they love each other isn’t artificial and it’s all so slooow.
I don’t have a favorite. Nope. If you made me choose, I’d go hide in a corner because I can’t. I have favorites in both, and while it may appear that We Were Meant to be is full of cliches, that’s also true for Nice-n-Slow. I love the idea that two people may be destined for one another *sigh*. If you know that he/she’s meant for you, then worries of them not loving you or leaving you for someone else are minimized, which gives space for a whole lot of other complications. But, with random people who fall in love, there are all the things we all struggle with: The uncertainty, the incompatibilty… and just… STUFF.
Significance, by Shelly Crane, is one of my favorites from We Were Meant to Be. Maggie and Caleb’s story is so original and I can’t help but go back to it every once in a while! The pics in the Nice-n-Slow group are just some of my favorites. TOO MANY TO LIST!
What kind of romance books do YOU prefer to read? Destiny-bound couples, or slow-building attraction and love?

I think I prefer slow, but I don’t mind predestined romances IF they’re done well and don’t end up feeling like insta-love. Even if the relationship is predestined, I like to see it build!

Yeah, that’s me too. 🙂 Even predestined romances work best when the attraction builds.

The best indeed. :3 A while ago I used to really love predestined couples, but now I’ve realized most where really cliched, so both groups are now even. Forced love sucks.

I definitely prefer the Nice-n-Slow romances. It just feels so much more authentic, and I love seeing the characters’ relationship grow in a way that doesn’t feel forced.
