Synopsis
Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he'd signed his own death warrant.
Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order's headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.
A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?
Yup, this was my reaction when I could finally hold this baby in my hands. Those golden letters… *sigh* Rogue was a really good book. But it also could’ve been better. And it pains me to say so because Julie Kagawa is one of my favorite authors, and I’ll love her writing forever. However, if I have to be honest, the story hasn’t been feeling as epic as the gorgeous covers suggest.
Very sad indeed. But don’t worry! I wouldn’t call Rogue a disappointment! It actually had quite cool action scenes that I enjoyed very much! The main plot was interesting, and I have to say Riley/Cobalt stole the spotlight in this book. Which wouldn’t necessarily be bad, if he was the main character.
Ember falls into the background and when she does step forward, I kinda wish she would just retreat and go over her lines. Because, guys… (This is your warning to brace yourselves.) There is a love triangle.
*gasp*
I takes a ridiculous amount of page time, and I say ridiculous because, unless we’re swept off our feet with the mighty ship of Ember and Riley at the end of this series, and I’m forced to eat my words, I’m going to continue believing she’s going to end up with Garret.
I like Ember. I do. But her bouncing between the two guys doesn’t win her a lot of points with me. Maybe it would have, 2 years ago, but not now.
Wrapping up, Dante and Riley are the highlights of Rogue. Dante is getting on my nerves, but I love it because I’m dying where all these decisions will take him. And Riley because from all this insight into his life and motivations, I now have a clearer idea of what’s at stake for him should he fail. He’s like a big brother to all the rogues and it’s heartbreaking how many risks he takes to keep them safe.
