Because we bookish people are a weird bunch. I thought about this today, when before my Accounting class (sigh), I was hanging out with some friends. Well, they talked, I read. So, then, I get to a part of the book where after things being perfect for a while, it’s just so clear something bad’s gonna happen. I was lying on my back, but I suddenly sat up with an ‘I can’t do this!’ and put the phone away.
I don’t need to tell you about my friends’ stares. My best friend told the others that it was all okay, and that’s just what I did sometimes. Then, he imitated various of my ‘I just can’t’ moments. It was hilarious, because it’s true!
The reading experience is different for everyone, but for me, it’s like that.
I just have to take a breath before I know something bad or super awesome’s gonna happen. You know, mentally prepare myself for it, steel my feels.
Although, we all know that feels just can’t be controlled.
Also, I can’t read with people around. Of course, I can read in a coffee shop, or other places like that. But, for example, if in a coffee shop, I’m with someone I know. Even if that person were totally okay with me reading, or wasn’t paying me any attention at all, I just can’t focus on reading.
Now, this confession here is hard but… *takes deep breath* Sometimes I do read the last page. Most of the time it’s one of the last ones though. When I genuinely think this will spoil the book, I don’t. But sometimes, the book may be boring, or something like that, I want to see the end so that I know if it’s worth it if I keep reading.
On that note. KISSES. I don’t know if this makes me as immature and teenage-ish as adults who don’t read YA say, but, if a book doesn’t have KISSES, it better have one killer plot. Lately, I’ve been trying to read books not so romance focused, and I love some; I’m just very picky with them.
And on that note, it’s easier for me to read this kiss-less books when they’re in paperback, or hardcover. (preferably hardcover :D) I’ve tried in digital, but I end up ditching them. I love reading in my kindle app, but it seems to only work when I’m on the same page with the story (Get it? XD), right from the start. I think it’s because I tend to try harder with physical copies since they costed more.
I know some people take notes on physical books. A friend of mine uses Post-Its. But I don’t. Maybe I should, take notes somewhere, for reviewing purposes. But, I won’t write on the pages, and I’m too lazy to do it elsewhere. So notes are only for digital.
Oh, and this one. If I own a hardcover, and take it to classes to read, I always remove the jacket on the second day. First day, I leave it on for showing off 😉 Beautiful covers are beautiful! From then on, I leave the jacket at home so it doesn’t get torn, or gets wrinkles. I’m paranoic like that.

Ha! I NEVER read the last page, but I know you’re not alone in this. And I’m pretty partial to books with kissing myself – and I’m WAY past YA age, so …

Kissing is good for the soul 🙂 But I really should resiste temptation, because sometimes it does feel as if it’d have been better if I hadn’t peeked.

One of my reading quirks is that I’ll find something hilarious in the way something is written and I’ll be cracking up laughing and one of my family members will walk by and ask why I’m laughing and I’ll try to explain, but they just don’t understand. haha. Or I’ll try to explain the beautiful and intricate plot of a book a just read and try to explain how good it is, but I always come to the conclusion – “You just have to read it.”

That’s the worst about being a book nerd :/ I wish everybody too would feel how I feel about a certain book, but it’s just not the same to tell someone, as that person reading it themselves.

I’m not great about reading around people either, even if it’s totally socially acceptable to do so. I just get distracted by what’s going on around me pretty easily. Now, if it’s me and another person reading in silence together, I can handle that!
As for notes, I really don’t take any. I will occasionally highlight a quote in a book (ebook, that is) but I think taking notes takes me out of the reading. I should take notes of some sort. I’m sure it would help me with my reviews. But it distracts me too much!
