October was so bittersweet! I’ve had a lot going on but overall, I’ve definitely been taking advantage of my recent graduate status!
I started doing Pilates again, which is a special kind of torture that I weirdly prefer over going to a gym. But last week my friend and I took a spinning class -they offer those in the same place too- to get some cardio going and… I got wrecked.
Of course I made sure to tell the instructor that I didn’t even know how to a ride a regular bike. He walked us through how to use the machine and everything so I was kind of cool. It was hard, but I already knew it was going to be what with my stellar physical shape. What I didn’t know, was that I was so out of shape that when class was over I’d stand up and have my knees immediately fail me.
I laughed it off.
A day later I couldn’t even go to the bathroom without my legs killing me. I couldn’t sleep at night. Couldn’t bend my knees at all. Even walking my legs felt so stiff and stick-like. And to top it off, one of my knees seemed to be swollen.
The day after that I’d had enough. A visit to the doctor confirmed that I’d totally overdone it, and that my muscles were quite near a serious collapse that only surgery would fix.
Fun times.
As of the writing of this post, it’s been four days and my legs are much better! Since the swelling has go down, it seems like surgery won’t be needed. Been taking my medication religiously. Walking feels more normal now, but I still can’t bend my knees too much because the pain returns. I’m not as scared now but I’m still a little anxious about it. I hope they get back to normal soon. I’ll never ever take bending my knees for granted again.
But anyway, this incident is also why last week I only posted once. My energy has been through the floor, and only these last few days I’ve been doing stuff and I even read a whole book in two days! I’ll definitely be taking it slowly when my rest is over. I’ve been confined to my house for at least two weeks while I recover. Now that the pain has lessened I’ll be using my time to blog and keep working on my online stuff!
Book reviews
This time allowed me to finish the Shades of Magic trilogy, revist an old favorite (with questionable results), and also finally read Roar, by Cora Carmack. That review is pending, but it’s definitely coming soon!

I feel that this month was a little lackluster in discussions, but I hope I can get more inspired in November.

According to all the online course gurus I’ve been learning from, preselling your course is the way to go to test the people’s interest in it. So that’s exactly what I’ve been bracing myself to do. I have all my slides ready, already uploaded two out of six videos in the course platform. And… I’m kinda stalling sending that email.
I was so excited about launching this course, which is not huge at all. It’s a pretty basic look at developing characters. Still, now I’m scared to death. I want to hear feedback, but I’m also terrified that everyone will hate my voice and demand a refund or something.
It helps to write about it here, makes me acknowledge that fear and suck it up. I need to send that email on monday.
Thanks for bearing with my ramblings in this section. Up until now it’s all been preparation. I’m hoping that next month’s wrap up will bring news about actual product selling!
The community
Okay… I seem to have misplaced the links to the blog posts I’ve loved this month. I’m so sorry. The most recent one that really caught my eye was Aimal’s.
Aimal makes such a good point about characters in books that really work hard to achieve their goals, instead of just relying on talent.

Best of luck for your course, that sounds so exciting – also a bit stressful, but SO exciting, too. You can do this, I'm rooting for you and I'm sure it will be amazing!
I hope you'll have a wonderful November <3
