Hi, everyone! I’m Lizzie and I blog at bigbooksandgrandelattes.blogspot.com and I want to thank Pamela for having me here at her blog!
My family has Christmas/holiday traditions, but there’s nothing that we do that’s too exciting. We decorate our front yard, and my mom goes crazy with it because she loves decorating. We bring out our fake tree and decorate so much that it looks like it’s going to tip over due to the insane number of ornaments. We bake Christmas cookies, the same ones every year: snicker doodles, Russian tea cakes, press cookies, and Hello Dolly bars. Along with all of these cookies, we have a bunch of pies after dinner.
Most of my family actually lives about five hours away, so we make the drive a couple days before Christmas. And sometimes we don’t get to my grandma’s house until the early hours in the morning. We do Christmas Eve with one side of my family, then do Christmas Day with the other. Both days are crazy with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Then, a few days after the holiday, my family makes the five hour drive back home, oftentimes in crazy snowstorms. Even though we love our family, we can’t wait to get home.
My family then does our own Christmas, just the four of us, when we get home. It was annoying when my sister and I were little, because we had to wait for our presents, but we don’t mind it anymore. By this time the desserts are almost gone, and what isn’t finished is set out for our New Years Eve celebration.
We don’t have too many traditions, mostly just splitting up our time between the two sides of our family and making sure we don’t lose our sanity. But that’s how our Christmas is, and I don’t think we’d have it any other way!
