[alert type=”info” close=”false”]I wasn’t actually tagged for this, lol, so feel free to do the tag to if you want![/alert]
Let’s Get Started with the Unpopularity!
A popular book/series you didn’t like:
Yikes, you’re going to make me say it, Pam. Okay, I’ll do it. Don’t hate me people! I didn’t like the Shatter Me series, by Tahereh Mafi. *gasp*
I actually did like the first book. It was full of promise. But I don’t know, the excitement just flopped afterwards.
A popular author you can’t seem to get into:
Haha. That would be Maggie Stiefvater. She’s a pretty cool lady, I follow her own twitter, but since I read her book Shiver, I haven’t been able to get into anything else she’s ever written. I tried to read Sinner. And it really didn’t work out. Oh, with the exception of the Scorpio Races, of course. Because the Scorpio Races rocks.
A love triangle where the protagonist ended up with the person you didn’t want them to be with:
Twilight? Of course I used to belong to Team Edward. But later, when I re-read New Moon, when I saw the movies, I realized how disgusting Bella’s behavior was, (and unhealthy, just sayin’). But I could actually picture her being with Jacob, her learning to love herself more, measuring her worth in not someone’s love for her… And I think Jacob could’ve helped her do that. Since she seemed incapable of doing it herself.
Yes, Bella, we know.
A popular/beloved character you dislike:
So… I can’t recall if I’ve said it before. But I really hate the Darkling, from the Grisha series.
Yes, I ADMIRE SO MUCH HOW GREAT OF A VILLAIN HE IS. AND GOD HE’S S SO HOT. Villains like him, truly crazy, but not just evil for shits and giggles; are rare. But, I would’ve never shipped Alina with him, and every time he had page time, I wanted to punch him.
A popular series you have no interest in reading:
That would be the Lord of the Rings. Gosh, I’m a nerd of the movies, but that’s as far as my geekiness goes. I have no desire to read the books.
A show/movie adaptation you liked better than the book:
Vampire Diaries? I started the first book and didn’t even make it through the first chapter. But the show?
And it has nothing to do with any hot vampire whose name starts with D and ends with AMON. Not at all.
A popular book/series everyone hates but you love:
Not everyone hates it, but I’ve seen some strong opinions on the Tiger Curse series, by Colleen Houck. I actually think it’s awesome, in spite of its flaws. I had a blast reading the four books in a week.
A popular trope you’re tired of reading:
In books with fantasy and paranormal elements, I’m so sick of romance always being an instant freaking connection. I can’t tear my eyes off him. He’s so hot. I should stay away. My family is gonna die. The world is going to explode… Decisions. Nah, one kiss never killed anybody.
…
A popular style of cover you can’t stand:
The one where a girl stares directly at you and it’s super creepy. I don’t like it because, for one, it’s been overused, and second, it tells me nothing about the story I’m about to read, unless the story, or the title has something to do with eyes.
So, that’s it. Hopefully you guys won’t hate me too much. Oh no, I hear a horde coming.
*goes to hide in basement*
Crap I don’t have a basement.

This tag seems so interesting Pam! 😀 And I agree, that instant freaking connection is what I also disliked. It’s sometimes irritating actually, it’s like a joke.

I haven’t read the Shatter Me trilogy, yet because I heard mixed things about it AND I hate love triangles so, so much. I gave up on the Tiger’s Curse series right after the first book, and stopped watching Vampire Diaries, too around the 3rd season, I think? Anyhow, I totally agree with you on that the books are a lot weaker than the tv show. Lord of the Rings is a series I don’t want to read either and I haven’t even managed to watch the movie and not sure I even want to – now, that’s some unpopular opinion lol. I adore Maggie Stiefvater’s books, the only exception is Lament because that one was just meh, but I’m a hardcore fan of Raven Cycle, though I understand why it wouldn’t work for some.
Great post and I’m new here so feel like I have to say how much I love your blog design – totally simple but cute. Also, the Halloween header? Perfect! <3

Ugh. I DNFed the last book in the Shatter Me series. I skipped to the end and I wasn’t pleased, and I’ve decided I definitely do not like this series. As for LotR, XD there are plenty of people that don’t really care about either the books or movies, so you’re not alone! My best friend will cover his ears whenever I mention watching them.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit the blog! And yay! I’m always changing something and never seem to be 100% satisfied with everything, but I appreciate the imput a lot!

This is fun; now I want to do it too!
Re: Tiger’s Curse–Ms. Houck spoke at the middle school where I teach last spring and did an excellent job. Her books flew off the shelves all year. It was pretty interesting hearing how she developed her ideas; she was very conscious about her motifs. I didn’t get into her books myself, but I’m in the “anything that will get kids reading is great” camp.
Oh, and I’m with you on Stiefvater. The Scorpio Races is one of the best books I’ve read this year, but Shiver was boring and The Raven Boys is…..just…..so…….slow. What’s up with that?
Pamela Nicole says
Go ahead! Haha, yes, I was fascinated with the mythology aspects of the series.
*shudders* Trying to read Sinner was like trying to walk through jelly. Not that I’ve ever done that, but yeah. 🙁 Too bad. Like I said, she seems like a really cool person.
