A Book’s Genesis is hosted by Daniela at Daniela Ark, and it’s about talking about our WIPs, these awesome things that will hopefully become published books one day. It’s a really great idea because the topics for each month so far make you think deep about your story and help you have a clearer image of it in your mind.
And now let me introduce you to my new WIP, the one I’m working on for Camp Nano:
It doesn’t have a name yet, sorry
I guess it’d be much easier if I talked about the other WIP, the one about Wonderland, and dragons, and lots of epicness that I really should get to finishing before getting into another one. But yeah, I caved, and I’m in something else now because this idea won’t leave me alone.
So, what is it about?
Knowledge is power. That much has always been clear for Ariadne Afton since she was a child. That is what allows an overpopulated society like hers advance, be better. And she’s okay with being part of the system, another wheel that spins in the place it should to keep everything working, until a tragedy shakes all she thought she knew about her world, and herself.
Something is brewing behind scenes there. There’s unrest, incarcerations happening more often, and even deaths under the charge of Unlawful Imagination. Everyone should put their brains to work for the good of all, and not waste time on silly nonsense. Her determination to find out the truth takes Ariadne back to somewhere she had never thought she’d return to and round the help of old friends, including the one of a soldier with a talent for getting on her nerves. Imagination is power. It can’t be controlled or forbidden. And it might just save your life.
The world is kind of dystopian so when I first thought about this, I paused. I mean, isn’t there enough of that already? C’mon, everyone’s pretty sick of it, but yeah, I’m still going to do it because why the hell not, right?
Now, say hi to my tough girl, Ariadne!
Sorry but swoony soldier had to be cut off because he was just not right.

Yes, imagination is definitely power! With imagination we can both create and destroy.
This sounds like it will be a really great and meaningful story. Can’t wait to to hear more about it! 😀

I love it when a story nags you so much you have to drop everything just to write it down! I love your concept and the way it’s developing. Good job!
And not too far away, I’m afraid. The reason we write dystopian stories is because the world needs to hear what can happen – what might happen – what is bound to happen if we don’t stop and pay attention! No, there are never too many!
Love your graphic too =) Keep up the good work! I can’ wait to hear more!

Hear, hear! I have a friend who told me that fiction was useless and that I should read more stories about real people and real events. Suffice it to say, I tuned him out. I read non-fiction, too, but what’s wrong with fiction? Absolutely nothing! It’s a great venue to explore humanity through various lenses, situations, and perspectives. Anyone who can’t appreciate that, in my opinion, is narrow-minded, snobbish, and elitist. So definitely carry on with your WIP, girl, ’cause I wanna read the heck outta that plot!

THANKS SO MUCH! Yes, that’s the spirit!

How can people say that imagination is only for entertainment when one of the biggest genius in history said “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” There would be no science, no evolution, no advancements without imagination.

That was actually one of my biggest plotholes. I was like ‘How on earth do these people hope to achieve anything without imagination? They’re supposed to be really smart.’ So then I figured it’s using imagination for non ‘useful’ purposes that is forbidden, as in writing fiction books, painting, writing songs…

Hi Pamela, there’s always room for another dystopian and yours may prove to be a winner. So you go girl!

Thanks for the encouragement!

Ooh, this sounds interesting! It definitely makes me angry when people regard things like imagination, fantasy, fiction, etc. as just frivolous entertainment and not something important that has huge benefits to life. So that would be a terrible world to live in! But that’s why it sounds like a good idea for a story.
Who cares if dystopian is oversaturated? The book I’m working on (well, kind of, since I’ve put writing on hold at the moment) is also dystopian 🙂 Just write what’s in your head, and don’t worry about what’s popular or not since it changes all the time anyway. Dystopian might be popular again by the time your book is published 😉

Thanks for the advice! My own real life experience was what inspired that part. It’s one thing people who don’t like reading at all, but the ones who read, but just consider fiction, young adult fiction useless are just infuriating!

I love that you’re doing Book Genesis, it’s such an awesome idea from Daniela! And I’m glad to know you’re doing Camp NaNo too, Pamela!
It’s always so nice to have a new idea to work on, although your wonderland story sounds pretty interesting too. But I love Ariadne already 🙂 And, deaths for Unlawful Imagination? I’m so intrigued, I hope to hear more about your WIP! It sounds intense!

oh Pam! you are a NaNoWriMo Camp Mate too! That’s awesome. I hope you continue with your camp updates!
I felt the same about my dystopian/apocalyptic based on biblical myths. Daniela! hasn’t that been done before???
But as Writer’s Digest said in their article Editors and agents are all looking for the “same thing,” only “different.” 🙂
I LOVE the line “Imagination is power. It can’t be controlled or forbidden. And it might just save your life.”
I can already tell this is going to be a powerful story Pamela! I can’t wait to hear more 🙂
Thanks for joining “A Book’s Genesis” 🙂

I know right?! I take great pride in her wardrobe choices XD And yes she’s named after that greek gal who helped Teseus out of a maze, and the inception girl who designed mazes, so it all influences a bit her role in the story.
