Synopsis
In this unforgettable teen romance that fans of Sarah Dessen and Susane Colasanti will devour, Quinn Sullivan falls for the recipient of her boyfriend's donated heart, forming an unexpected connection that will leave readers utterly breathless.
After Quinn's boyfriend, Trent, dies in an accident their junior year, she reaches out to the recipients of his donated organs in hopes of picking up the fragments of her now-unrecognizable life. But whoever received Trent's heart has mysteriously remained silent. The essence of a person, Quinn has always believed, is in the heart. If she finds Trent's, then in a way she still has a piece of him.
Risking everything to find peace once and for all, Quinn goes outside the system to track down nineteen-year-old Colton Thomas—a guy whose life has been forever changed by this priceless gift. But what starts as an accidental run-in quickly develops into more, sparking an undeniable attraction. She doesn't want to give in to it—especially since he has no idea how they're connected—but their time together has made Quinn feel alive again. No matter how hard she's falling for Colton, each beat of his heart reminds her of all she's lost . . . and all that remains at stake.
As you can gather from the blurb, the plot isn’t exactly the most original one, but still I really did love this book.
It cuts straight to the chase. The event that setseverything into motion is Quinn’s boyfriend’s death, but we’re not swamped with a whole chapter dedicated to how it happened, and the funeral, and all that jazz. It’s tastefully referenced.
Quinn’s mind is a broken, but okay place to be in. Of course, some of her thoughts are annoying, but I also hurt for her, because everytime she remembered something about Jake, I really did feelbad. Not to the point of crying, but definitely something.
What I liked the most was how the book is so artfully wrapped up in the end. It’s obviously a happy-for-now ending because with these kinds of things you never know, but, still it was awesome because it didn’t leave me hanging and summed up Quinn’s emotional journey beautifully.
The snippets about heart transplants were interesting, and while I skipped some, I could tell they mostly complemented the story pretty well.
Colton might seem a little too perfect, but he was alright too. Oh, and bonus!
Do you know how in stories it’s just so infuriating when there are misunderstandings, that result in major drama, that yes, are entertaining but get old, especially when they can be solved just by one person saying what he/she’s supposed to say?
Here, I was pleased to see that the drama doesn’t last that long, and it’s solved it a realistic way. Kind of. But still, way better than the ‘Not talking to you, you evil person. You hurt me!’
