I know. I seem to be in a light, fluffy reading kick. But that’s alright, I’m loving these books. My favorite thing about contemporary romances is how relatable they are.
In the Fill-In Boyfriend I appreciated how insecure Gia was portrayed, not really crazily and unhealthily so, but enough to allow me to identify with her.
Here the tone is more fun and joking, and I loved it! IT’S NOT NEW. But I was glued to this book and finished it the same day. The dialogue was fluid and I could actually picture people bantering like that in real life. Gia’s struggles and desires for validation are the core of the story, where she has to decide when do the lies stop, and when it’s too late to stop them Sometimes they just fall apart before you’re ready and that’s when you’re dead, because the only thing worst than a lie, is people discovering by other source that is not you directly.
So, to sum it up, Gia and… Fill-In Bradley’s relationship was the higlight of this. They were so cute! I often found myself smiling and just screaming internally. C’mon, just kiss already!
Gia-> So glad for you, hun.
Fill-In Bradley-> You just kiss Gia again.
Gia’s Parents-> You need an appointment with a family counselor ASAP.
Bec-> You rock girl.
Olivia (Bec’s and Fill-In Bradley’s mother)-> HA HA HA HA HA HA No, seriously, you’re hilarious.
Jules-> You are the reason babies cry at night.
Gia’s got a group of friends. Jules is supposed to be the mean girl. And, yeah, you can say I hate that individual a lot, but what really bugged me were the other friends. I mean, seriously? Yes, lying is bad, but their attitude -they were absolutely clueless and dumb- got on my nerves. Throughout the book, an already ‘alright’ situation (the creation of Fill-In Bradley so that the lie would continue), began to complicate, but it was just because of these really stupid girls. I’m aware that without their dumbness, Gia probably wouldn’t have had so much pressure, but I do believe it would’ve been better if there was a more plausible reason why they would be so oblivious all the time.
I NEED MORE FLUFFY, CUTE SCENES BETWEEN FILL-IN BRADLEY AND GIA THOUGH!
