Synopsis
There are some things I know for sure:
1. I died . . . a long time ago
2. Even in death I was always aware of him.
3. Love has a way of making even angels choose to leave their heaven above.
This book wasn’t bad. Nope. In fact, it was a good thing to finally get away from the same story mold of angels being watchers and keepers and creepers and… You get it. Here, Maura is just an angel that falls in love with a boy, and viceversa.
It was really sweet, although borderline cheesy, but hey, I could deal with it. 🙂 However, I don’t recommend it for people that value plot over romance.
The main problem with this book, is that it had too much baggage. I mean, a lot.
We’re told too many unnecessary stuff. Maura’s daily routine, how she gets to school, how she goes shopping… It’s endless. A lot of these could’ve been summarized with narrative instead of describing it. Although, mind you, this was one of the few books where these extra paragraphs were just… like an annoying fly. Usually, when this happens, I lose my drive to keep reading, but this story managed to keep me there… somehow. So, I just skipped pages until something else happened.
A secondary problem that bothered me the most at first was when this lady that finds Maura alone at the side of the street takes her in no questions asked and lets her into her home and instantly just knows it feels right to have her there.
I’m not saying the world doesn’t have plenty of naively stupid nice people, but… but… my mind just refused to accept it. It felt too convenient. This lady keeps being just too convenient during the whole book. It’s almost at the end, where she starts showing character potential and you feel for her.
On that note, the end.
YEP
Yes, so I was going on with my life, everything easy peasy, when this book knocks me over the head and I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure, sounds cool’. I wasn’t impressed, and well, having read a lot of books, I’m familiarized with the formula, BUT then Stone Faced Angel comes along. -_- When I read the ending, I wasn’t sure if I should pull a Bradley Cooper (metaphorically, because my dad would kill me if I destroyed my phone), or just cry.
It’s unexpected, I’ll give it that. I… I don’t know if you would like it, but… that’s the thing. You probably won’t, but like me, you will come to realize it does make sense. Sure, everything could’ve turned out like you envisioned it happening, but… I don’t know. This ending fits and ties everything in a carefully placed ribbon. An ugly ribbon, but well-made.
Would I recommend you to open what’s inside? I’d say yes, but remember what I said about the romance.
