Synopsis
It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
What you need in order to survive Angelfall:
*A good-quality sunblock because Raffe is hot as hell.
*A comfy couch where you can lounge all day and read this book (food is optional)
*You need to keep your phone away from you. This one is more focused on helping your friends survive your social media feeds. They will suffer the wrath of Penryn’s and Raffe’s frustrating ship.
In case you haven’t heard the good news, I’m just going to come out and say it: THE END OF DAYS IS COMING. No, relax; the world is not ending, not yet, at least. But, my world probably will if I don’t get the third book of the Penryn and the End of the Days soon.
Angelfall, as I said in a previous post, is one of my favorite Angel books of all time. I just fell in love with it. But of course, I can share!
The story begins a couple of weeks after the world as people knew it, ended. Angels appeared, people panicked, and it all went to hell from there. Supermarkets were raided, and gangs formed. It’s kill or die.
In this world, Penryn, is struggling to stay alive with her mother and sister. Just that. She’d be very happy if everything went back to normal, but for now, her main goal is surviving. No, dazzling heroine here with world-saving ideals.
Her character is amazing because her decisions are realistic. She bargains with an angel, hides and plots with him, all to get her sister back. And she doesn’t get immediately dumbed down by a pretty face. Penryn acknowledges Raffe’s fresh-out-of-the-oven-cookies hot and then moves on with her life.
The worldbuilding is dark, and reminds me of that Steven Spielberg movie about aliens invading the earth, which is awesome, because the world was really fucked up in that movie.
No flowery prose, but it does make for a thoughtful one, not all bang-bang action all the time. I might be biased, because, you know, I LOVED Angelfall, but still, GO OUT THERE AND READ IT.
