My Favorite Disney Princesses
In light of the new Cinderella movie, which I’m very excited about, I decided to talk about my favorite disney princesses. They certainly have evolved a lot from the stereotypical damsel-in-distress type to princesses that don’t need any prince at all. We all have our favorite, and here are mine:
Mulan
She’s my top favorite because of her utter badass-ness. Yup. This girl lived in a society where women were only considered useful for house chores and siring children, where she had to keep her gaze down and do not speak while a man was doing so.
But Mulan was ‘hell no!’ and at the expense of losing her life (both if she succeeded or not), she pretended to be a man and went to war, all because she wanted to save her father. She’s my hero.
Belle
Belle from The Beauty and the Beast is also one of my favorites. Main reason: She’s a book lover. Yay! Also, she’s another example of doing what must be done, in spite of the risks for herself. And even though the town thought she was a weirdo for reading so much, she never let that deter her from doing what she liked the most.
All in all, I think we need more women like these. Sure, Disney Princesses can be about dresses, crowns, pink and princes; but we can’t deny there’s worth in their stories.
