So I just finished Cress and I’m dying.
I don’t want the Lunar Chronicles to end 🙁
But, this also has given me the opportunity to wonder about something. You see, Scarlet, one of the other badass girls in this series, is SO different from Cress. I mean, they’re all different from each other, but I think Scarlet and Cress are the ones that have the most glaringly obvious difference.
Scarlet is all snark and business and reckless decisions, but Cress has been stuck in a satellite for most of her life, always on the sidelines watching the stories of the world unfold through a netscreen. She became skittish, and and a hopeless romantic, but undeniably brave, and resourceful too.
Reasons why I love Scarlet
- I admire how she fights for what she wants, in spite of few believing she can
- She has solid opinions on things, and doesn’t follow the crowd
- She refuses to appear weak
- She knows when to let someone else help her
Reasons why I love Cress
- I totally relate with that innocent part of her that yearns for this epic love story
- Once she makes friends, she treasures them with her life
- She’s a badass hacker
- She’s brave and defies everything she’s known for the chance at freedom.
Of course people, and MCs come in different personalities, and we can’t possibly box them in two categories. But usually, you can’t be all snarky, and sweet at the same time, unless you’re a YA heroine .
Wait.
Okay, okay, but you get the drift.
So, which do I prefer?
That’s such a tough choice!
Usually, I prefer my book heroines strong-willed and fierce, but there’s also a bonus relatable factor when they’re more on the sweet side. Because it gives me, the reader an opportunity to see how that person evolves. Maybe she doesn’t become another person; of course not, but she starts questioning things, and making decisions that perhaps would be easier if she was more used to life-or-death situations.
And which do YOU prefer? Okay, I’m aware that’s an unfair question, so if you are like and don’t have any preferences, I also would really like to know about some of your favorite book heroines!

16/04/16 Update
Today at approximately 18h00 EST, my country, Ecuador went through an awful 7.8 earthquake. I’m happy to say my family and I are okay, and so far, there’s no tsunami alert, but people the closest to the sea are being urged to evacuate, just in case. It was a horrible experience, but also eye-opening. I legit thought the world was going to end, and it felt as if the whole world was shaking. There’s been at least 40 confirmed victims and my heart goes out to their families.
Stay safe everybody.

I’m stuck on this one, just like you are. Sometimes I love a snarky heroine, but then the sweet, innocent one can definitely capture my heart. So, I guess series like The Lunar Chronicles that have them both are the best!
