We all love our adaptions and retellings. :3 Stories that take the original essence of a classic and offer us a new perspective of it are awesome, and even inspiring. These are three books that I think achieved this, or are just plain fun to read.
Of Beast and Beauty, by Stacey Jay
One of my favorites! It’s mind-blowing how this story takes everything you know about the Beauty and the Beast and twists it so it stays true to the tale, but at the same time it’s fresh. The whole review, here.
Sun, Moon, Ice and Snow, by Jessica Day George
It’s kind of close to the real fairy tale, but even so, I really enjoyed it. I know of some who didn’t, but don’t take mine or their word for it. Check it out and decide yourself 🙂 I liked how the writing really did read as a fairy tale but without it getting tiresome.
Beastly, by Alex Flinn
I guess it could be considered a bit cheesy. But this one is set in the modern world and told from the ‘Beast’s POV, which was what initially drew me in. I think it was a nice read that will appeal to most Beauty and the Beast fans out there 🙂 (Pss! See the movie too! It’s nice)
And, these are two bonus ones that are in my TBR shelf.
Princess of Thorns, Stacey Jay
*fangirling* This one is a The Sleeping Beauty retelling. Princess Aurora is cursed to destroy the free will of any male that kisses her. In her journey, she meets a cursed guy with who she will work together to fight for her throne and rescue her brother. You can check the premise in Goodreads by clicking on the cover image :3
Me, I’m just counting the days to December 9th while watching Maleficent to drown my sorrows.
Winterspell, by Claire Legrand
Main character’s name is Clara.
Does it tell you something? Hint Hint
A dark take on the Nutcracker, from what I gather from the blurb. Worth taking a look?
What do you think? What other fairy tale-inspired books have you read or want to read?

I’ve only read one of these (WINTERSPELL) although SUN AND MOON, ICE AND SNOW has caught my attention before. In terms of WINTERSPELL, I thought it was quite good–kind of dark and maybe a little disturbing, but the writing was gorgeous and I found the plot to be engaging, too.
PS Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting! 🙂
